Christmas Deliveries 2015 (07/12/2015 @ 11:06:05)

Blimey it flies round fast!! Christmas boxes are now ready to order online or via the phone, the usual small 1-2 people, medium 3-4 people and large 5+ people with every thing you need for the day. Any questions, queries or requests send me an email or give me a ring. I'll be delivering them on Christmas Eve this year so they'll be fresh as fresh can be :)

Deliveries over the festive period will be Friday 11th and 18th as normal, then the 24th instead of the 25th and Saturday the 2nd instead of the 1st! Then returning to the usual Friday slot on the 8th January and there after.

Exciting Times (09/08/2015 @ 10:38:00)

I'm so pleased to tell you we are creating our orchard! It will be one acre in size, consist of around 300 trees and sit at the top of the last field. It's still in the early stages of development but we're hoping to have many different varieties of all the different fruit trees, cherries, apples, plum, pear and of all different sizes, from the very small dwarf stock to the traditionally huge standards.

There is a very nice man, Nigel Deacon, from Leicestershire Heritage Apple Project who is willing to come on board in some capacity. Their passion is Leicestershire apple trees and they're always looking for somewhere to plant their trees and create new local orchards...and we have just such a place :) Nigel tells me that there are 12 varieties of apple tree specific to Leicestershire and that amazingly it is possible to pick fresh apples up to and including December!!

I would love you all to be involved in anyway you'd like, as much  or as little as you want so I'm inviting you all to become members of the co-operative. How about planting your own tree in your own community orchard, your personal carbon off setting and in caring for your tree your rewarded by the tree with fruit once a year?? It's only 7 per person per year to become a member of the co-operative, this entitles you to a once a year course at the farm, each year it being a different course, it may be on organic growing, one year grafting fruit trees, another year composting etc and being part of a community built around producing edibles, with everyone involved it will be brilliant!!

If you wish to become a member of clogs or have a chat about it get in touch with me on rawnpure@rawnpure.org      07812990603 or 01509 502108

Cheers,

Sarah :)

finally regrowing :0) (04/12/2013 @ 20:55:06)

Hello, hello, hello :0)

I hope this finds you all cosy and well. I apologise for the time lapse between this and the last newsletter, I thought I really should let you all know we are still here plugging away and happy that the season finally warmed up :0) That said I'm happy I've got all my garlic and broadbeans in before it gets cold again!!

As you all know last year was a completely disastrous growing season and we had to reduce the number of boxes we could provide due to lack of produce but finally after an extremely cold spring our crops started producing!! I can't tell you how happy that makes me!! So we are now in position to take on a few more customers. We still aren't delivering to Leicester city only villages close to the farm and Loughborough area but hopefully next year will be better still and we can slowly build ourselves back up. If you really want a box and we don't deliver to your area collections from the farm can be arranged, but please phone me first to discuss :0)

The most important issue I wanted to mention is the problem I've been having with our emails. I wasted a lot of time trying to sort it out myself and then got Rob the web designer in!! I can only apologise for the lack of reply if anyone has tried to contact me via the web shop email, it is however fully functional now thanks to Rob!!!

So sorry to mention it but (in a very small voice) the christmas boxes will be ready to order in a couple of weeks, the usual three sizes/prices look out for them on the web shop or send me an email now it's working!!

So as monsanto looms large, keep it local, keep it fresh and keep it real,

oooo and keep smiling

Sarah :D

heavy heart (29/08/2012 @ 06:42:31)

Hello Everyone,

I hope this finds you all well. This is a very difficult newsletter to write, I wouldn't call the news bad exactly but it heralds the beginning of a new phase.

As you all know this growing season has been the worst yet and none of them have been good. We have very little produce in the fields and have had to pull all growing back to the poly tunnels to try and protect it. We therefore do not have enough produce to supply all the boxes and certainly no the bespoke service.

So it is with a heavy heart I must cancel the bespoke option and a few of the weekly discounted boxes to a number we can grow for in this most bizarre of summers, for the time being anyway. I have spoken to those of you this affects, if I have not contacted you personally your box and delivery remains unaffected.

If you require a box from now on there is only the discounted box option available and as I said we have limited produce so I would appreciate it if you would first phone me on 01509 502108 to discuss availability before placing an order.

Lastly I can not thank you all enough for supporting us over the years. The strange weather we have been experiencing is a great worry that no pesticides or chemicals can help with, the organic growing method is most in tune with the natural world and to my mind vital for the future and one I hope you continue to support.

With many many thanks to you all,

Sarah.

cucumbers and salad (19/06/2011 @ 20:53:57)

Just a quick note to assure you our tomatoes and cucumbers are UK grown, very soon to be Leicester grown and our lettuces and salad leaves are Leicester grown and that I eat them raw all the time.

I have to confess I don't really understand how fresh raw veg could carry this awful bacteria, the only thing I can think of is that it had some manure on it and hasn't been washed?? But I am aware that there's a lot I don't know or understand.

We do have some lovely produce at the moment, onions, mange tout, spinach, spring greens to name a few. I hope your gardens are flourishing and the dry weather hasn't hampered you to much.

Take care,

Sarah.

News Autumn 2010 (12/09/2010 @ 19:27:17)

Hello All,

I hope this newsletter find you well. We are feeling very grateful for this years relatively normal growing season, I say relatively due to the lack of rain but for us this uncommonly dry weather has helped reduce the amount of slugs drastically and the weed growth so its not all bad!

The cold weather and late start meant that I was raring to get sowing this year and I have remained pretty much on top of things, losing control of only one bed, a record!

So things are blooming on the farm at the moment and we have so much lovely produce, aubergines, broad beans, calabrese, onions, tomatoes, squash, turnips, potatoes to name but a few! Please check our web shop to see the full selection. www.rawnpure.co.uk

If you want to buy from us in person and have a chat at the same time we will have a stall on the 18 & 19 September at Belgrave Halls annual Local Food Fair, it's a really good day out for all the family and not just because were there!

But if all you want to do is come and have a look around our farm and ask us some questions we are having our annual open day on the 26 September this year between 1pm and 5pm. If you are coming please would you email or phone me so we can get an idea of numbers and I can give you details of parking etc. rawnpure@rawnpure.org or 01509 502108, thanks.

Finally on a more serious note the big movers and shakers that have an inflated interest in Genetically Modified produce are again trying to push their products on the public. They appear to have asserted their influence on the food standards agency as a result two leading members of the Food Standards Agencys group on public engagement on the issue of GM have resigned after exposing that the process is a sham. So if you do find yourselves with 10 minutes to spare you could send an email to your MP via the soil associations web page. http://www.soilassociation.org/Whyorganic/GM/Takeaction

So on that happy note I bid you adieu and I hope to see you soon!

Sarah

Delivery Days. (04/05/2009 @ 21:43:13)

We have had to consolidate our delivery days to Fridays only. We have put this off for a long time as we want to offer as many options as possible but the demands of the farm have made delivering on two days a week unjustifiable time wise. If a Friday really doesnt suit you but you still want your delicious fresh veg please phone me, Sarah on 01509 502108 to talk about alternative arrangements.

May News (04/05/2009 @ 21:36:55)

 Hello Everyone,

This is a really quick news letter as spring is in full flow and the farm is a hive of activity with everything needing to be done right now! So it is with gratitude I thank Daby Deol, who has been volunteering her services of late and has been a great help. Thank you Daby!

I have some sad news about our male duck. Bernard was taken by a fox last week while on slug patrol. He died protecting the females and will be greatly missed. We are incubating some eggs in the hope of continuing the circle of life.... To be continued!!

Most of you will be aware by now either through the website or by phone, but just in case and for those of you who arent, we have changed our delivery days to Fridays only. We have put this off for a long time as we do want to offer as many options as possible but the demands of the farm have made delivering on two days a week unjustifiable time wise. If a Friday really doesnt suit you but you still want your delicious fresh veg please phone me, Sarah on 01509 502108 to talk about alternative arrangements.

New Summer Delivery Schedule (24/04/2009 @ 06:19:00)

Starting in May, for the summer months when we need to spend more time working on the farm, we will condense our delivery schedule to Fridays only. We hope this isn't too inconvenient.

Spring is Here! (24/03/2009 @ 20:11:58)

Spring is Here!
Well the snow has melted, the bulbs are up, spring is in the air and as is the way at this time of year our winter greens are

dwindling from constant picking! The stored vegetables are looking sparse and all last years produce is coming to an end. We will have one last burst of life from the plants before they set seed for a fresh new season. Having said that we still have produce in the fields including cabbages, sprouting broc, leeks, brussels as well as celeriac, parsnips, shallots, garlic in the store and the ever  present lettuce, salad leaves and herbs. As I said we do still have kale, chard and spinach but in rather smaller quantities!

Well some seeds have been sown and lots more sowing is imminent as we enter into our busiest time of year, which is ironic as its also when we have the least produce and, as many of you know, is called the hungry gap.

On to other news, the Soil Association

Inspection went well and we passed with

flying colours, of course!! Sue and I would like to thank you all for your continued support, we believe what were doing is important but we really cant do it without our grass roots!

We were successful in our application for a rural micro grant and consequently we have an eye catching new banner for use at markets and fates and some brilliant new leaflets packed full of information and

pictures! I have included some in your boxes in the hope that you would be kind enough to pass some on to your friends and family.

Our Easter delivery days will be as normal, with us delivering on the Good Friday to ensure youre well prepared for the holidays, but with the exception of Easter Monday when there will be no delivery.

Now to something Sue and I have been putting off as long as possible.  As I am sure you all are aware the last two seasons have been awful and not just in this

country but worldwide, directly affecting harvests and consequently prices. Also the pound has hit an all time low impacting

especially on imported fruits, which have more than doubled in price. We have struggled to keep our prices down and will continue to do so, but it is with regret that we are going to have to slightly increase our minimum order size to 6.00 and our price per portion to 1.20, this will ensure a really good portion size.

Since beginning to grow organic produce in late 2006 we have encountered two of the worst growing seasons for some time and now a recession! We continue to do battle with climates of all sorts (!) in the belief that it is worthwhile to make local naturally grown food available.   As this coming season is going to be fantastic we are aiming to have a price reduction to reflect this.

We carry on regardless!!

Thank You.
